Role and Responsibilities

The Cloud Operations Engineer will be responsible for running, maintaining and operating several of our cloud hardware and services; using software created by our development team along with other software tools.  In this role, you will work on a range of in-house projects.  This job provides a degree of freedom that you will not find in larger companies.  If you are looking for a job that makes use of your critical thinking and creativity when it comes to system administration then this is it.  

You will work within a small, friendly team of operations engineers and work closely with a few teams of software engineers on a number of critical products and projects.  Ideally you are detail-oriented, self-motivated, and work well in a fast moving, dynamic work environment. 

Qualifications Requirements

  • Proven experience administering Linux in a production environment.
  • Solid understanding of programming and/or scripting with Python, Bash, Perl or other languages
  • Solid understanding of Linux administration and/or networking administration.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities, and the ability to triage and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly in documenting and teaching operational cloud processes.
  • Ability to work on critical and abstract tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable using and learning new technologies and products.

Knowledge of any of the following is an advantage:

  • Website services: Apache, Nginx, Tomcat
  • Storage Technologies: CEPH, gluster, DRBD
  • Cloud technologies: OpenStack, vmware, AWS, gcloud, Azure
  • Automation/change management tools: SaltStack or other yaml based config products
  • Networking experience
  • Systems monitoring: Nagios, Prometheus, graphana, ELK, graphite, collectd,sentry
  • System Administration: Debian variants, RHEL/CentOS, minor Windows
  • Distributed message queues:  RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ
  • Datacenter experience, planning, deploying, using remote hands
  • Database administration: postgres, mysql, and nosql like mongo

Education

  • B.S. Degree:  Information Systems or related field and/or 5+ years' experience as a Systems Administrator.

Additional Notes

This is FT, long-term position. Hours of work will be primarily 8:30am to 5:00pm during the week, but able to participate in an on-call rotation at least once a month.
